Czasowniki są podawane w słownikach na dwa sposoby:
1. poprzedzone wyrazem „to”:
to eat – jeść
2. oznaczone literką „v” (v jak verb – czasownik):

Zawsze jednak podawane są w formie bezokolicznika (infinitive).
Odmiana czasowników w języku angielskim jest szczątkowa (każdy czasownik posiada zaledwie kilka form).

Rodzaj rzeczownika
Rzeczowniki w języku angielskim nie posiadają rodzaju gramatycznego (nie ma rozróżnienia form męskich i żeńskich).
Kiedy jednak odnosimy sie za pomocą zaimków osobowych (he/she/it) to muszą one zgadzać się z faktycznym rodzajem osoby lub przedmiotu (jeśli nie da się określić rodzaju to używamy rodzaju nijakiego: it):
